OPPOSITE EFFECTS OF bFGF AND TGF-b1 ON TGF-b1 mRNA EXPRESSION IN HUMAN MCF-7 BREAST CARCINOMA CELLS

Stoika R.S.

Transforming growth factor b1 (TGF-b1) is known as a growth inhibitor for most normal and transformed epithelial cells whilst basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) is a mitogenic agent. Here we show that TGF-b1 mRNA expression is inhibited under the action of TGF-b1 and induced under the action of bFGF in human breast carcinoma cells of MCF-7 line. mRNA expression of human pituitary tumor transforming gene was not changed under the action of these cytokines.
