DIFFERENT ETOPOSIDE-INDUCED APOPTOTIC RESPONSE OF HUMAN MALIGNANT LYMPHOID CELL LINES

Summary. On the basis of combined morphological and flow cytometric study B-cell human lymphoma line Namalwa has been shown to be less susceptible to the induction of apoptosis by DNA topoisomerase II inhibitor etoposide than T-cell leukemic line CEM, with maximum apoptotic percentage attaining only 5% by Hoechst staining and 13% by flow cytometry analysis of propidium iodide binding. Meanwhile, preincubation of Namalwa cells with retinoic acid containing mixtures resulted in increasing susceptibility to etoposide judging by significant augmentation of the percentage of the cells with less than G1 DNA content. Retinoids, therefore, seem to possess apoptosis modulating activity in malignant lymphoma cell line under study.
